6 Easy Ways to Stick to Your New Year’s Resolutions in 2023

2 January 2023

2023 is officially here! Which means it’s time to make a start on those New Year’s resolutions. But how can you make sure that you stick to them? Here are 5 easy ways to set yourself up for success and achieve your resolutions.

Make sure your goals are clearly defined

For example, instead of saying something vague like “I want to improve my fitness”, define exactly what you mean. Losing a certain number of pounds? Being able to run a specific number of miles? Reaching a certain body fat percentage? Setting specific goals like this is very beneficial as it helps you to understand exactly what you are trying to achieve. Once you have your goal clear in your mind, you should write it down somewhere where you will be able to see it every day.

Break them down

If your resolutions feel quite overwhelming, it’s a good idea to break them down into smaller “mini goals.” For example, if one of your resolutions is to start your own business, you could break this down into more manageable milestones like prepare your business plan, create a website, source marketing materials, etc. This makes your resolution feel much more achievable and within reach.

Keep track of your progress

If you don’t track your progress, then you may find that you start to lose motivation as you can’t look back to see how far you have come. Tracking your progress will encourage you to keep going if you are seeing good results. Tracking progress is also beneficial as it can help you to identify when you may be slipping backwards. You can then respond to this by changing your behaviours.

Tell your friends and family

Depending on the nature of your resolutions, you may feel a little embarrassed about announcing them to your friends and family. But this is a great way to keep yourself motivated and on track, as your friends and family will be able to support you and encourage you to reach your goals. It also provides a sense of accountability and determination as you will want to prove to those around you that you can succeed. You could even see if anybody has a similar resolution to yours and then you could work towards it together!

Reward yourself

If you are making good progress towards your resolutions, reward yourself! This doesn’t mean rewarding yourself has to contradict your resolutions. For example, if your resolution is to exercise more then why not reward yourself with a new stylish workout set? This will provide you with an incentive to keep progressing towards your goal.

Don’t be hard on yourself

Nobody’s perfect, so if you slip up try not to be too hard on yourself. Resilience is key to reaching your goals. So don’t use relapses as an excuse to give up, instead just dust yourself off and get back on the path to success!
