Is the Nintendo Switch OLED worth it?

21 September 2022

The Nintendo Switch OLED has become an insanely popular gaming console that has been on everyone’s wish list for a while. The OLED version is the higher spec of the Switch family. But is it worth the money? We will be pinpointing the features, functions, and benefits of the Nintendo Switch to help you decide if it is right for you.

What is the difference between the Switch and Switch OLED?

The main difference between the two consoles is of course the OLED panel instead of a LCD. This means that you should get a better picture overall, with deeper blacks and more natural looking colours. This is great if you are an avid gamer and want to get the best experience out of every game. However, this is not the only difference.

The OLED is slightly larger than the original Switch too. The OLED screen is 7 inches, whereas the Switch is 6.2 inches. This may seem like a slight difference, however, the small change in screen size allows you to fully immerse yourself in every game you play. The overall size of both consoles is similar, however, the OLED has less of a frame around it. This is what allows it to have a larger screen.

In addition, the OLED does not require a microSD card. This is because it has built in storage, meaning there’s one less thing to buy and worry about. The storage of the OLED is 64GB which can be extended if you need, however, you would then have to buy a microSD card- these go up to 2TB of storage and are sold separately. Finally, the OLED has an improved adjustable kickstand which allows you to game from different angles and positions with ease.

Where can I buy them?

Both the Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED are available from a range of suppliers. At Fairwayrock, we offer different Switch versions and bundles from a range of suppliers so you can easily compare prices, delivery costs/ times and product features. Check out our Nintendo Switch range here

So, what one should I get?

This completely depends on what you prefer. If you are an avid gamer and want the best gaming experience as possible, the OLED is the one for you. However, if you are looking for something to play now and again, the original Switch may be best. The OLED is more expensive than the Switch as it does have more features, but the price difference isn’t huge. We would recommend the OLED overall as it gives the best gaming experience out of the two.

We hope this blog has helped you decide which Nintendo Switch version you should get. Let us know in the comments which one you prefer!
